Historic England

Approach

Node were commissioned by Historic England to research how the impact of tall buildings upon the historic environment was assessed, understood, and illustrated in planning practice.

The project involved a wide ranging investigation of past and current practice. This included consultation with expert parties across the private and public sector, and critical analysis of many case studies across the country.

Result

The project’s key lessons supported the development of a new strategy for tall buildings within Historic England. The work fed directly into the production of a new good practice advice note on the subject. The case studies formed an evidence base for use by Historic England personnel in training and advocacy.
