Hixon Airfield

Approach

Node prepared a commercial masterplan for a site on the edge of an existing business park at Hixon Airfield in Staffordshire.

We worked with the landowners and business park operators to define a vision for the extension to the business park which would help to redefine the character of the site and provide a range of development opportunities that could diversify the site’s client base in the future.

Key to the design development process was the potential impact on views due to the highly open nature of the site and flat topography associated with its former use as an airfield.

Impact

Our masterplan created a new public gateway to the business park which would assist in changing its public perception. A layout was defined that allowed a series of building types and sizes to work within its framework, ensuring flexibility for the business park operators.

The design created landscape spaces and planting that assisting in filtering views and respected existing technical constraints including a high pressure gas main. Consultation took place with Stafford District Council to ensure that the proposals emerged in a way that would be acceptable to the local planning authority.
